In this edition:

Dear readers,

During Advent, we celebrate the coming of Christ. We rejoice in his first coming, and we look forward with hope to his return. We do so with the Jewish people, who are also waiting for their Messiah. In Romans 15, Paul teaches us that Jesus Christ became
a servant of the Jews on behalf of Gods truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written  Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing the praises of your name. Again it says: Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people.’”

What a privilege it is  as Gentiles  to know the God of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as our heavenly Father, and to sing the praises of his mighty name  together with his people Israel.

It has been a joy to work with so many partners around the world over the last year, to raise a voice into the churches about God's faithfulness towards the Jewish people. Thank you for your support, and we wish you all a very blessed Advent and Christmas.

Andrew Tucker
on behalf of the C4I International Board, leadership and staff

The Menorah of 5777

Is Chanukah the festival of religious freedom, as it’s often claimed to be? The answer is both a hesitant yes and a clear no! Of course I realise that I will gain popularity when I clearly and publicly state that the menorah announces a message of tolerance, religious freedom or even better: freedom of expression. However, this message would partly contradict the essence of Chanukah.

Dark clouds above the land of the north

You hardly hear anything about it, but the war in the east between the Ukrainian army and the separatist militants continues unabatedly. We could clearly hear that during our stay there. The fights in the vicinity of the large seaport and industrial city of Mariupol intensified. Ironically enough a new non-official border wall arose there manned by the army to enter and leave the war zone.

Eyewitness report from Haifa

By Simon Soesan.. At ten thirty I looked outside again. We already had heard that the arsonists tried to set fire to the main fire brigade’s station, so it was obvious that they intended more mischief. All of a sudden there was a flame on the hill opposite.

In 1947 the scrolls of Isaiah were discovered in the Qumran Caves. The State of Israel purchased them in 1954. Isaiah is a prophetic book: the return of the Jewish people and the restoration of Israel are foretold.
