Dear friends and partners,

In May and June there have been many important developments around the world affecting Israel and the church. To name a few:

  • The rise of ISIS and ongoing conflict in Syria
  • Visit of the Pope to Israel
  • Collapse of the Israel/Palestinian peace talks, the Hamas-Fatah "unity" government, and the kidnapping of three Israel teenagers in the West Bank
  • Decision of the Presbyterian Church in USA to support BDS against Israel.

Not surprisingly then, these have also been extremely busy months for Christians for Israel worldwide. In this edition of the Messenger you will get a taste of the many activities and programs in recent weeks around the world.

Thank you for your ongoing support and interest. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to be involved in the growing Christians for Israel movement.

Global Prayer Call 2015, Newsletter nr.2

Below you will find the GPC Newsletter nr. 2 - June 2014. It contains the update about the three major events that are already history.

Australia takes lead in international law

The Australian government recently announced that it will not refer to East Jerusalem as "occupied territory". This statement comes soon after the Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop questioned the generally-repeated assertion that all Israeli settlements are "illegal". The Palestinians and the Arab world have reacted strongly to this by threatening Australia with sanctions.

Rev. Willem Glashouwer spoke in New York & Washington DC at ‘The Shalom Yerushalaym Festival 2014’ organized by KCSJ (Korean Christian Shalom Jerusalem)

‘The Shalom Jerusalaim Festival 2014’ was held for the Jewish community in New York & Washington D.C in the USA between 9th June and 13th June 2014. This festival was firstly initiated by KCSJ (Korean Christians Shalom Jerusalem) in 2013 and it was the second time this event was held in the USA.

Dear friends! The tour with Drake continues on the level it kicked off in Zambia. We now have expanded teams in South Africa and in Swaziland. In the photo below you see the expanded team from Swaziland. Two of the brothers started of in 2013. The rest was added as we have been together with them yesterday (June 24, 2014).

European leadership meeting in The Netherlands

The leadership of Christians for Israel in Europe met for four days in Ede, Netherlands from 22 – 25 May 2014. 45 participants attended from Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, UK, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Romania, Ukraine.

ECI Young Adults Conference

From 19-20 June, 2014, the ECI Young Adults Conference took place in The Hague. The main subject was "The State of Israel in International Politics". The (35) participants had a really worthwhile time in the mini-conference and visited the International Court of Justice in The Hague and the Dutch parliament, in The Hague too, talking to some of the Dutch politicians.

Update#1 from the Ukraine by Koen Carlier

Shalom! In the attachment you see a group of Jewish refugees brought by local Christian drivers to Kiev from the East of the Ukraine from the cities Kramatorck and Slavjanck. We look after them until the moment they can make Aliyah. We will look after them for a maximum of one month but more and more Jewish refugees are expected to flee from the East and coming to Kiev.

Update#2 from the Ukraine by Koen Carlier

Our worst fears in the Eastern Ukraine have gradually come true! The situation deteriorates as daily battles rage between the Ukrainian army and the separatists. There are, probably, more than 20,000 heavily armed rebels in the East. Heavy weapons are used and there are air strikes on the separatists. The battles, in an area three times the size of the Netherlands and four times that of Belgium, keep moving between different towns although it remains concentrated around the four towns of Donetsk, Kramatorsk, Slavyansk and Luhansk and the many small border posts between Russia and the Ukraine.

Nataliya Krishanovsky: My heart breaks

Moving account of an Aliyah field worker about her homeland Ukraine The army that liberated us from the concentration camps in 1945 now came to attack us! According to one of the war veterans, a female holocaust survivor. Terrorists, separatists, shelling, buildings burning, executing families… recently, that was the news we read about from foreign countries, but today there is trouble in our own house – Ukraine.

Israel and international law

The position of Jerusalem and the “ West Bank” under international law is a hot issue. On 4th June 2014, Christians for Israel Netherlands organized a conference on the topic “Israel, BDS and international law”, in cooperation with the European Coalition for Israel. The conference was attended by over 120 people.
